Andrei Ioniță, cellist

Last night I saw wunderkind cellist Andrei Ionita perform at The Playhouse in Norwich, with the diminutive Lilit Grigoryan on piano. The second half included a mesmerising version of Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No.4 in C Major, Op.102/1. And the crowd-pleasing Fantasiestücke for Cello and Piano by Schumann certainly..er… pleased the crowd.

Ionita won First Prize at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015. He plays a 1671 cello by Giovanni Battista Rogeri.
